Scott Trout Advocates For Shared Parenting In Indiana Lawyer
Cordell & Cordell Executive/Managing Partner, CEO Scott Trout was recently quoted in an article published by Indiana Lawyer detailing the efforts by Indiana lawmakers to pass legislation that would establish the presumption of shared parenting in the state.
Sen. Jon Ford, R-Terre-Haute, introduced a bill in the 2019 Indiana General Assembly that would change the Indiana child custody laws. Senate Bill 87 would add a rebuttal of presumption in child custody proceedings that joint physical custody and equal parenting time is in the best interests of the child.
Cordell and Cordell has long been an advocate for divorced fathers. The firm’s attorneys work diligently to help dads stay involved and engaged in their children’s lives after divorce.
Unfortunately, that has been an uphill battle historically. According to U.S. Census Bureau data, the percentage of custodial fathers is just 19.6 percent, far below a quarter of all custodial-parent families.
Mr. Trout, who is licensed in Missouri, Illinois, and Georgia, has fought for fathers’ rights in court rooms and has not hesitated to call out unfair gender bias when he has seen it.
“At the end of the day, fathers just want to be treated fairly,” Mr. Trout said.
If you are a father facing divorce or any child custody issue, it is a good idea to get in touch with a divorce attorney who focuses on fathers’ rights as quickly as possible. Cordell & Cordell’s emphasis on issues facing dads in divorce gives them an astute knowledge and understanding of the unique challenges fathers are up against in family law.
