New York TimesCordell & Cordell Co-Founder and Principal Partner Joe Cordell was recently quoted in a New York Times article about how the debate over brain injuries in football is becoming an issue in more custody disputes.

The story details the custody battle between John Orsini and his ex-wife. Mr. Orsini, citing scientific studies about the dangers of repeated blows to the head, has gone to court to prevent the youngest of his three sons from playing football. The boy’s mother argues he should be allowed to continue playing because he understands the risks.

Mr. Cordell noted that about a third of Cordell and Cordell’s 270 divorce attorneys for men say they have seen an increase in custody disputes over whether a child should be allowed to play football. Most of those custody battles occur in states where football is very popular, like Texas, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania, where Mr. Orsini’s case is taking place.

If you ever have any concerns regarding what activities your child is allowed to participate in, based on your child custody order, it is best to get in touch with a divorce lawyer for men. They will be able to help you understand your rights as a father and will look out for the best interest of your child.
