Joe Cordell Explains ‘Divorce Month’ Trend On Fox Business
In many legal circles, January is referred to as “divorce month” because of the surge in divorce filings that typically occur during the first month of the year. A recent survey even predicted a 300% increase in divorce inquiries in January.
Cordell & Cordell Principal Partner Joe Cordell recently appeared on Fox Business Network’s Varney & Co. to discuss some of the reasons for this uptick.
“I think in some ways it’s like a perfect storm for divorce,” Mr. Cordell said.
Mr. Cordell explained that the holidays often lead to increased tension between couples in preexisting taut relationships. However, most of these marriages started their downward trend prior to the holiday season.
“There probably was t his abiding sort of dissatisfaction that has typically been there for a while,” Mr. Cordell said. “This wasn’t an idea that was born during the holidays, typically. Maybe even, in fact, there was some tendency to hope that (during) the holidays things will be different, and it turns out it’s not.”
