About Stephanie M. Smith, Senior Litigation Attorney
Columbia divorce attorney Stephanie M. Smith not only considers family law a career, but she sees it as her calling.
As a child, she was presented with many obstacles and adversity.
“I am fortunate to have overcome those trials, and now I am honored to be an advocate for people in times of confusion and fear,” Ms. Smith said. “I did not have that support, and I believe it is now my duty to make sure others do.”
Ms. Smith is a resourceful divorce lawyer. She is deeply involved in the community and has a wide variety of contacts and a broad network, which has proven time and time again to be useful in facilitating productive negotiations, obtaining settlements, gaining and maintaining trust with key players in any case, finding solutions to issues, and obtaining important information they may otherwise find difficult to find.
More than anything, Ms. Smith is passionate about serving people. She does not look at what she does as a job but believes it to be a privilege.
“It does not matter how complex or simple the tasks of a case are, they are all important to me, and I give it everything I have,” she said. “I had to work very hard to be where I am today, and statistics say I should not be. I am humbled to be an outlier, and now every day, every case, every issue, is just another opportunity for me to live the dream.”
There is a saying Ms. Smith uses when talking to a client about what needs to be done to achieve desired results.
“I do not have to, I get to,” she said. “I get to do what I love. I get to make a difference. I get to fight for you.”
