Joe Cordell Divorce Discussion with WAEC 860 Radio in Atlanta

Love 860 radioThis week, Cordell & Cordell principal partner Joseph Cordell spoke on Love 860 WAEC Radio about fatherhood.

Mr. Cordell discussed the importance of fatherhood, child custody and child support issues that often affect men and the changes he’s seen in the last few years with many men actively seeking out more parenting time with their children.

He mentioned that, in terms of custody, many men who are clients of Cordell & Cordell are “more ambitious than social workers, attorneys or ex [partners] might believe and want more than just scraps from the table.”

Mr. Cordell spoke about the recent trends with fathers, their roles and their motivations to have rights to their children.

“Originally, men were seen as paychecks, and it was believed that the mothers did all the nurturing,” explained Mr. Cordell. “But now, thankfully, guys are coming back and demanding their rightful place in their kids’ lives.”

Joe Cordell Speaks with Money Radio about Issues Men Face During Divorce

money radioPrincipal Partner Joseph Cordell recently spoke with Ken Morgan from Money Radio on the station’s Business for Breakfast show.

During his interview, Mr. Cordell addressed many of the most common mistakes men make when facing divorce. He mentioned that for men who want primary child custody, or want to play large roles in their children’s lives, it’s often important not to move out of the house too early in the process.

“Once you’ve done that, you’re at a disadvantage,” Mr. Cordell explained. “Then, you’ve left your children in the primary care of mom. It can be difficult to get back to the place that you were before you walked out that door.”

He also discussed the disadvantages men sometimes face when dealing with family courts.

“There’s been a lot of progress in the last 20 years, I’m happy to report,” said Mr. Cordell. “But for the most part, when guys are in the family courts, they face an uphill battle for equal opportunity with custody of their children, maintenance, issues with child support…[they] are still overwhelmingly at a disadvantage.”
