Cordell & Cordell CEO Joseph Cordell appeared on Bloomberg Radio’s “Taking Stock with Pimm Fox” show to discuss positive trends related to men in divorce cases, particularly the increase in men receiving spousal support.
Judges are more frequently awarding maintenance to guys as women continue to advance in the workplace and contribute more to the family finances.
“As a firm, we’re glad to see judges are increasingly willing to ignore gender in awarding maintenance, and this is something radically different than in the past,” said Mr. Cordell.

Some of these new households may be created by people who have delayed divorces for economic reasons, according to the Bloomberg article on divorce.
“There is a pent-up demand for divorces,” which are usually “a matter of convenience or discretion,” said Cordell, whose firm represents men in domestic litigation.
Bloomberg mentioned Cordell & Cordell’s growth – about 20 percent more clients in the first quarter – that is likely to continue in the next few quarters.
