Being an effective advocate in domestic relations cases requires a number of characteristics, according to San Francisco and Foster City divorce lawyer Kimberly E. Lewellen.
“To be effective, an attorney must manage the emotional issues existing in all family law matters,” Ms. Lewellen said, “and at the same time be superbly prepared, calm, steady, and on target with her professional judgment.”
Ms. Lewellen describes herself as a passionate advocate who works hard, works smart, and cares about her clients. When she meets with her clients she reminds them to “take the high road” during the process.
“Family law cases often involve one party who is unjustifiably fearful and distrusting. This will manifest in mudslinging and posturing in an attempt to bias the court,” she said. “It is critical to ‘take the high road’ and stay focused on the real issues. Eschew the normal gameplaying with confidence, calm, and credibility.”
