Cordell & Cordell Senior Litigation Partner Kelly L. Burris was recently quoted in an article published in Newsweek about decision factors to consider when deciding whether to pursue a divorce or separation.
Ms. Burris, who works out of Cordell & Cordell’s Austin, Texas, office, cautioned that for many couples it does not make sense to get both a legal separation and then a divorce.
“The divorce will usually cover all of the things a legal separation covers,” Ms. Burris said.
“If you’re 90 percent of the way to a divorce, and have already negotiated all these different aspects, and then decide to reconcile – you can still do that right up until the point you sign the final documents.”
