child custody biasCordell & Cordell Jackson divorce attorney Jerrod M. Rayborn was recently quoted in a Clarion Ledger news article examining whether a gender bias against men exists in Mississippi child custody cases.

A number of fathers are quoted in the article who feel they were treated unfairly by the state’s child custody courts. Mr. Rayborn said his experience handling Mississippi child custody cases has led him to believe that dads tend to have the deck stacked against them.

“In theory, there is no bias based on gender in child custody cases in Mississippi,” Mr. Rayborn said. “However, in my experience, that is not the way things work out. While the gender gap is beginning to narrow as we now have more stay-at-home fathers and working mothers, there is still a significant gap that favors the mother in child custody cases, particularly with children up to the age of 11.”

If you are a man facing a divorce or child custody issue, it is a good idea to get in touch with a family law attorney who focuses on fathers’ rights. They will better understand the unique challenges facing dads in the family court system.
