Men's Health MagazineCordell & Cordell Principal Partner Joe Cordell was recently interviewed in a Men’s Health Magazine article about how men still face numerous unfair stereotypes in family courts.

“We’ve decided as a society that there are certain forms of discrimination that we will not tolerate,” Mr. Cordell said. “But there’s conspicuous silence on the topic of men in family court. No large private interests are advocating for them. Guys are pretty much on their own.”

In the interview, Mr. Cordell discusses a number of topics, including how orders of protection are often used against men as “nuclear weapons” of divorce, how alimony is still often one-sided, and how men often make mistakes that end up sabotaging their divorce case.

“One is irrationally moving out of the house,” Mr. Cordell said. “Once you’re out, it’s much harder to get back in. Two, and this is huge, men have to be very self-conscious about raising their voice. The specter of violence, real or imagined, can put a man in a position from which he cannot legally recover.”

The full interview can be found in the April 2016 issue of Men’s Health Magazine.
