New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez announced the state will offer a week-long amnesty for people with outstanding arrest warrants in connection with unpaid child support, according to The Associated Press.

The governor announced that individuals who have bench arrest warrants for failing to appear in court because of unpaid child support can visit a Child Support Division office during the amnesty week without fear of arrest. At the offices, located in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho or Los Luna, violators will be able to pay a bond to have their arrest warrant cleared.

The amnesty week ends on July 28. The AP reports the program is available in Bernalillo, Sandobal and Valencia counties since those areas represent more than a third of child support enforcement cases in the state and more than $3 million in outstanding child support payments.

After the amnesty week, state law enforcement will reportedly conduct a search for individuals with outstanding arrest warrants.

There are multiple consequences for New Mexico residents who fail to pay child support. If a non-custodial parent does not pay child support, he or she may be subject to wage withholding, have his or her driver’s license revoked and be included in the state’s 25 most wanted for non-payment of child support posters.
