Fox BusinessLast month, Cordell & Cordell Principal Partner Joe Cordell appeared on Fox Business Network’s Varney & Co. in the aftermath of the Ashley Madison data breach to discuss how the hack could affect divorce attorneys.

On Friday, Mr. Cordell again spoke with Stuart Varney, as well as the Belleville News-Democrat and Thrillist.com, after it was announced the website dedicated to helping married people cheat had made another data dump.

Mr. Cordell acknowledged the breach likely will lead to a surge of divorces, but also noted its negative cultural and social ramifications.

“… There’s a certain satisfaction in that these cheaters are revealed, but as a practical matter, there’s a lot of devastation that flows from the divorce,” Mr. Cordell said. “The economic hardship, the hardship on the kids, the hardship on people’s health. There are consequences for adultery.

Cordell & Cordell Regional Partner Kelly Burris also spoke with News Radio 1200 WOAI in San Antonio about the impact being listed on the site could have on a person’s chances in divorce court.

She said that evidence wouldn’t necessarily factor into a child custody case, “I always tell my clients, just because you’re a bad spouse, doesn’t mean you’re a bad parent,” Ms. Burris said.

However, she added that it could play a significant role in property settlements.

“The courts do consider faults in the breakup of  a marriage when they determine if a property division is going to be a 50-50 split,” she said.
