Cordell & Cordell’s expansion with new offices in Birmingham, Ala., caught the attention of the Birmingham News, which profiled the firm, its mission, and why men need attorneys who exclusively practice family law.
In recent years, the paper notes, family court proceedings have grown increasingly complicated and nuanced, as gender roles shift at work and at home.
“The stakes are the highest that they’ll ever be for these people,” Principal Partner Joseph Cordell told the Birmingham News. “Everything in this world that’s of most importance to these two parties is on the table in this contest.”
Mr. Cordell said often, men are perceived in a certain light by judges, social workers and others involved in making decisions about a family.
“What that amounts to is trying to make decisions that acknowledge that in some courts, with some judges, at some times, guys face challenges that their wives do not,” he said.
In late May, Cordell & Cordell opened two offices in the Birmingham area – a main office in Homewood and a satellite office in Hoover. Attorney Charles Wiley Smith III will manage the two offices.
