A Kentucky woman and her adult daughter were arrested after reportedly injuring a man during a child custody fight, according to KFVS News.

Candice Singleton-Buie, 23, and her mother, 48-year-old Kathy Mellinger, allegedly arrived at a home in Boaz and grabbed two children from the front yard. The pair reportedly put the children into their car without child restraints, prompting family members to attempt to stop the vehicle, the news station reports.

Police said the mother-daughter pair hit a man in the leg as they drove away from the scene. In addition, the source reports the vehicle hit another car while it sped off, all while the children were in the backseat.

Although police said the incident was a “child custody fight that got out of control” the source did not specify whether the injured man was the children’s father.

Singleton-Buie was charged with two counts of fourth degree assault, one count of second degree assault, three counts of wanton endangerment and one count of first degree criminal mischief. Mellinger was charged with alcoholic intoxication and possession of an open alcoholic container in a motor vehicle.

Approximately 86 percent of custodial parents in the U.S. are mothers, while the rest are fathers, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
