Celebrity couple Jack White and Karen Elson released a joint statement on their sixth wedding anniversary announcing that they plan to file for divorce.

In the statement, the former couple said they plan on co-parenting their two children, Scarlett and Henry Lee, together and added they, “feel so fortunate for the time we have shared and the time we will continue to send both separately and together watching out children grow.”

White, who formed the rock band The White Stripes with his first wife Meg, and Enson, a model, were married in South America in 2005. Instead of mourning their divorce, White and Elson have decided to throw a party to honor their brief marriage. Invitations to their “divorce party” said they will celebrate the anniversary of “the making and breaking of the sacred union of marriage with our best friends and animals.”

Maintaining a cordial relationship following the break up of a marriage is important for couples who have children, according to KidsHealth.org. According to the educational website, research shows that the level of parental conflict children of divorce are exposed to is the single largest factor that effects their long-term adjustment.
